HUMAN WORK

Michael Fikaris & Friends

Human Work is a book project I began putting together in late 2023 for my latest exhibition. I asked friends for a black-and-white image depicting my character 'at work' on something. Producing community-based projects like this for over twenty years, I looked at it to be a complimenting addition to the other works I was making. As the book project grew I began showing some of the images to people around me and then more friends got involved. It has ended up with 102 new images from friends all over the world!

The book also has an article by Dale Nason about my small press publishing concern as well as an interview by Tom Groves from back in 2020 discussing 'the worker' character. Every hour worked is an hour that can never be retrieved. It’s also an hour from which economic elites profit, and they aren’t sharing those profits. Let's all work on things that can be shared with people beyond profit. Art is that work. Art is human work.

A Silent Army Print Concern.
