CLARE PATRICIA DILWORTH

Naarm (Melbourne)

@brain_drivel

Majoring in print and weave, her work often incorporates repetition and pattern. Clare really enjoys pushing the limit with what can be achieved with a single motif, creating trippy illusions through over-lapping colours and experimental colour-palettes.

Since a child, Clare has found comfort in the strange and unusual. She believes this fascination was influenced by growing up watching 90s children’s television shows and living in a musical household listening to 60’s and 70’s psychedelic music.

Clare’s home is filled with a colourful array of objects and art found in op-shops and collected from artists she admires. Not only does Clare create pieces that she would enjoy hanging up in her own home, but she creates to ease her mind from the day-to-day. It’s a therapeutic practice that helps her navigate the up’s and down’s of adulthood.

Clare touches on themes of mental health, using bright colour-palettes as juxtaposition to this heavier subject matter, and at other times she simply creates nice things to look at, guided by whatever playlist is currently on rotation.
