I take time, and time nestles onto my hip gladly like a tired child
31.05.24 ~ 16.06.24
This collection was created with an effort to meditate in a state of cognitive flow, over a year in which significant life events entailed introspection and deeper immersion in painting. In my studio, I loosen my grasp on time, or time loosens its grasp on me. I've since noticed a more defined pattern in my abstract painting practice - a little push and pull between technical knowledge and a child-like eagerness to play. I seem to, during the progression of a piece, take design values like balance, contrast and rhythm, and squish them like play-doh with my sweaty little palms until these principles are displaced and dirty. Then, using fields of explosive colour to simplify or preserve the loose draftsmanship of a confident hand, I coax out the original intent until something beautiful emerges.
