NATURE OF NATURE
15.11.24 ~ 08.12.24
The nature of nature is to survive. Each living thing, plant, insect or animal has its unique methods of reproduction and survival. There exists in this lifecycle both beauty and brutality, the power to both create and to take life.
I am constantly captivated by the complexity of this duality, and it forces me to approach nature with an equal measure of fear and reverence. There is a unique wonder that can only be experienced standing at the summit of the highest peak, but a foot wrong on your descent could be fatal.
There is something alluring about experiencing both sides of nature, and I have created a lifestyle that is focused on chasing every opportunity to observe, contemplate, and spend time taking in these wonders. What I learn becomes the core of the narrative and visual language in my work.
I pay close attention to the patterns, colours, forms, and textures that occur in nature. I am fascinated by the perfection in the balance and composition of these details, and I strive to recreate this in my work. This desire to replicate what I observe is the driving force behind my impetus to keep painting.
I am always perplexed that the majority of people don't share the same sense of awe towards nature as I do, I find that most people don’t give a shit.
I want my work, whether in public or on a gallery wall, to put nature in front of people and instil in them the same sense of awe that I experience. I hope that my work acts as a reminder for people to care more about, experience more of and slow down and approach nature with curiosity, respect and wonder.
