SUNSHOWERS & RAINDROPS
18.06.21 ~ 04.07.21
My portraits are a celebration of and reverence to badass women I know and admire.I paint my sitters in poses inspired by royal subjects in 16th and 17th-century fine art portraiture surrounded by references from nature and popular culture that connect them to their heritage, location, personality, identity, and time. Historically, women are not as often the subject in portraiture as their male counterparts, so I was inspired to create works that bring about a balanced representation of women’s creativity, power, and achievements.
Sun Showers & Raindrops’ is an exploration of culture, identity and the environment. The works in this exhibition shine a light on historically underrepresented groups in fine art portraiture and Australian flora and fauna which draw our attention to some of the most critical issues of our time; national, cultural, political and sexual identity and human impact on the environment. The chosen subjects of people and animals from Australia, popular culture, and the artists own personal life, are bright spots in the constantly evolving global dialogue of identity and human impact on the environment worthy of our attention.
